If larger on the bottom, snugger fitting bodice with an A-line skirt is a good pick.  Draw the upward with a dress having a high waist if you have a large middle or are heavy bottomed.  Plus sized women might choose a v-neck style dress, but avoid having it too low cut; you don’t want your breasts spilling out.  Avoid plain white or ivory and bold patterns because they emphasize your largeness. Avoid bulky, heavy materials that will make you look larger.

Accessories of  belts, bows and large brooches on dresses are probably not a good idea.  Even a plus size lady can wear the infamous “little black dress”; it will just be a little bigger.  Loose flowing materials and the empire waist style are appealing features for the plus size cocktail dress.  With good support and boning, you can even wear a strapless style dress;  to avoid self-consciousness, wear a shrug or jacket over top.
